Waiting.... waiting.... waiting.... it sometimes feels like change takes forever.
At the end of January, the NYSED Science Education Steering Committee met, so I spent a couple days working at State Ed reviewing plans and advising direction for developing new SLS assessments. We teased apart grade band and content area objectives and I left feeling forward progress - and empowered!
There are many components that are still confidential information, but the wheels are in motion. The SLS are in the beginning phases of implementation, curriculum is being designed, and support resources are developing.
Now, the big, chewy question, “What should assessments look like?”
It time to talk! State Ed representatives repeated the phrase, “All options are on the table.” Performance assessments, projects, debates, and discussions.....
What would you like to see your students' assessments to be? What format? Send your ideas in, NOW! Amanda Zullo, Amanda.Zullo@nysed.gov at NYSED will hear your suggestions.
