Join us on Thursday, May 2nd from 6-8pm, at Clinton’s Ditch in Schenectady, NY as we welcome Dr. John Garver, pHD. Professor Garver is a professor at Union College and will speak about comprehensive strategies for watershed management in the Mohawk. He has been directly involved in studies relating to hydrology, landsliding, sediment mobility, ice jamming, and flooding. He has worked in the Mohawk Watershed since 1996 when winter floods were accompanied by damaging ice jams. A major focus of his work has been on flooding, including ice jam flooding in the Schenectady reach of the Mohawk River. He and his students have assembled a flood chronology in the Mohawk River that extends back to early settlement by the Dutch, and this is one of the longest flood records in New York State. His recent and ongoing work is aimed at understanding challenges related to infrastructure in the watershed and building resilience into local infrastructure.
