MiSci - Lunar Engagement Day

Join MiSci for a fun filled day all about our Moon! We have film screenings, hands-on activities, solar observing and more. Pre-registration is available now!

10:30-11:30 AM: Ready Jet Go! TV show screening -- FREE!

In this program, Jet and his Boxwood Terrace friends learn all about Neil Armstrong and the Apollo Space Program as they embark on a sleepover on the moon. This program is free for all to attend- no museum admission required!

12-4 PM: Hands-on moon themed activities:

  • Build a paper Orion Spacecraft and a Lunar Lander
  • Create a moon phases cup
  • Explore lunar geology using robotics
  • Explore lunar lava tubes with Sphero robots
  • Code your own lunar rover
  • Launch paper rockets

1-2:30 PM: Solar Observing

Safely view the sun through the Dudley Observatory telescope!

4-4:30 PM: "Earthrise" film screening

A relevant and timely 30-minute documentary film by Emmanuel Vaughan-Lee, tells the story of the iconic image of the Earth taken from space in 1968 on Apollo 8. Told solely by the Apollo 8 astronauts, the film recounts their experiences and memories and explores the beauty, awe, and grandeur of the Earth against the blackness of space. Chief Astronomer Dr. Valerie Rapson will be available after the screening for a Q&A.

  • 1pm- Dog Days of Summer: A Live Sky Adventure
  • 2pm- Max Goes to the Moon
  • 3pm- Max Goes to the Moon
