MiSci - Octagon Barn Lecture Series

Join us for an astronomy lesson and dark sky observing at the Octagon Barn in Delanson, NY! Programs include a 1 hour talk by local astronomy enthusiasts, followed by a star party if the weather is clear. If you want to see the Milky Way this is the place to be! Amateur astronomers and families are invited to bring binoculars or telescopes. Family friendly. Programs will be held rain or shine.

Octagon Barn star parties are held monthly on a Friday night from April-November.

  • Friday, July 19, 8pm Rebecca Koopman (Union College)- “Measuring the Mass of Superclusters of Galaxies”
  • Friday, August 23, 8pm Dr. Valerie Rapson (Dudley Observatory) “Discoveries from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS)
  • Friday, September 20, 7pm, Tonight’s topic: "The Newest Member in Space - The Chinese Space Program" Presented by Prof. Ralf Schauer (SUNY Schenectady)
  • Friday, October 25, 7pm, Tonight’s topic: “Finding your way around the night sky” Presented by Dr. Janie Schwab (U Albany, past Dudley director)
  • Friday, November 22, 7pm Tonight’s topic: "Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI)” Presented by Dr. Harry Ringermacher (Univ So. Miss.)
