2023 Fall Conference Keynote Speaker Announced

It is with great excitement that the STANYS Eastern Section announces the Keynote Speaker for the Fall 2023 Regional Conference, William (Billy) Green. We look forward to an evening of stories and encouragement from this inspirational and forward-thinking educator. Billy’s passion and enthusiasm for teaching and learning is contagious and this is an evening you won’t want to miss! - Leigh Feguer NBCT (STANYS - Eastern Section, Fall Conference Chair) 

Billy Green is the 2023 New York State Teacher of the Year and recipient of the 2023 FLAG Excellence Award for Teaching. He is a Chemistry &  Physics teacher at A. Philip Randolph Campus High School in Harlem, New York. The mission of his work is to create spaces for learning and career pathways that empower marginalized people to find their place in STEAM by implementing practices that are responsive to the multiple identities of the individuals and communities he serves. He is the NYC Subject Area Representative (Chemistry) with the Science Teachers Association of New York State.  In 2023, he attained the Math for America Master Teacher II+ fellowship, allowing him to facilitate professional development for teachers across New York City. In an effort to expand his community outreach, Billy partners with East Harlem community-based organizations (SCAN-NY) to provide sustainable inclusive programming for LGBTQ youth. He collaborates with Opus Dance Theatre, Inc. to develop international Arts in Education camps in Africa that use the arts to create, preserve, and advocate for indigenous cultures. Billy is a member of the NYC Public Schools Chancellor’s Advisory Committee and an Ambassador for the NYS Blue Ribbon Commission on Graduation Measures.  Billy is a candidate for a Ph.D. in Science Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, and has degrees from New York University and Williams College.

The Eastern Section is a regional chapter of the Science Teachers Association of New York State (STANYS).
