LOUDONVILLE, NY — The Science Teachers Association of New York State (STANYS) Eastern Section is proud to announce its 42nd Annual Conference, taking place on the evening of Friday, March 6, 2026, at Siena University. This premier event brings together K-12 educators, local experts, and scientific organizations to advance science education across the region.

The conference is designed to empower teachers with innovative tools and pedagogical strategies. This year’s program features:

  • Exhibitor Hall: A showcase of local organizations and vendors offering unique resources, field trip opportunities, and classroom technologies specifically for science educators.

  • Professional Development Sessions: Two dedicated breakout blocks where teachers will engage with peers and local experts. These sessions focus on enhancing classroom practice through hands-on lessons, inquiry-based methods, and collaborative problem-solving.

  • Networking Dinner: An evening reception allowing educators from across the Eastern Section to build professional community and share insights.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Curt Stager

The highlight of the evening will be a keynote address by Dr. Curt Stager, a renowned scientist, educator, and author. Dr. Stager holds the Draper-Lussi Endowed Chair in Paleoecology and Lake Ecology at Paul Smith’s College. In 2013, he was named New York State Science Professor of the Year by the Carnegie-Case Foundation.

A prolific researcher and communicator, Dr. Stager’s work on climate change and environmental history has been featured in Science, National Geographic, and The New York Times. He is the author of several award-winning books, including his most recent work, "The First Adirondackers: 12,000 Years of Human Presence in the Adirondack Uplands." His keynote is titled What Do We Really Need to Know About Climate Change?

"We are thrilled to celebrate our 42nd year by bringing our community to Siena University," said Leigh Feguer, Conference Chair of STANYS Eastern Section. "Having a scientist of Dr. Stager’s caliber join us underscores our commitment to providing teachers with access to world-class expertise and inspiration."
